If you have noticed i have moved away from sigs now and got more into larger photomanips. I got bored of tiny things so i moved to a much larger scale.

Hey people, I'm Tom :). I'm a media student in my second year at Lowestoft 6th Form. I am hoping to go to college next year for Graphic design then either get a small graphics job or freelance around my area. Then later on in life move to Cardiff and freelance there.
I have been teaching myself graphic design for 3 years now. I have only started opening my mind to other programs like Cinema 4d and adobe illustrator.

Hey man, mind if I ask how you learned? Tutorials, experimentation, college?

Self-tought here - I started with tutorials, then began experimenting on my own and trying to duplicate work that I wished I could create to learn how.

Trying to go to Full Sail University atm, just hung up on funding (what a bitch huh lol) - wanting to go for a Bachelors in Digital Arts & Media :)

Not at all, i got into all this when a friend shew me Fireworks at school and its capabilities. I folled some tutorials and liked it. Then i found photoshop and i done about 6 months to a year of sigs, you know forum sigs etc. Then I moved onto like using PSDtuts etc for some bigger things and now i still follow tuts and improvise. I try and follow the tuts but adding in what i think looks best sort of thing.

Well atm i'm doing 6th form and im taking Media studies, Film studies and iMedia but next year hoping to do a level 3 course in graphic design and then on.

Yeah I got ya man, that's pretty much what I'm doing at the moment :)

I seem to be kinda stuck in Fireworks actually lol - when I got into all this, I started using Fireworks, and after about three years of me telling myself 'Eh I don't need Photoshop, this works fine and I'm comfortable/skilled with here' - now I see that Photoshop is the industry standard, and I feel that I've learned Fireworks so well that I'd have to start over with my skills if I convert now :/

So yeah, I know I need to move to Photoshop, but man I keep putting that off lol ^^

Nah don't be sorry. Yeah i started in fireworks but moved accross quite early. The diofference is magnificent and it is quite similar as they are both made by adobe. I would convert over asap then just get some decent tutorials up like maybe do some little sigs thats how i started on photoshop.

It's the best way to go tbh fireworks is like a demo of photoshop.

Thank you man, you have given me the motivation to go ahead and start learning Photoshop CS4 :)

And yeah I started with sigs myself for like gaming communities and such - on Fireworks tho lol :/

I think I'll try to start learning Illustrator as well - you told me it was good for 3D and another person told me it was good for vectors - so those are both things I've wanted to branch into / improve upon.
